ONE Friday Fights 177 and The Inner Circle 37 go out from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok on Friday, November 6, and the doubleheader has a world title fight on top. Christian Lee defends ONE's lightweight MMA title against Tye Ruotolo over five rounds. It is the only bout ONE has announced for the night so far, and it is a strange, compelling one: a man who has held ONE titles in two divisions against a man with two professional MMA fights.

Lee is 18-4 in ONE with one no contest, and 17 of those 18 wins came inside the distance, 13 by knockout or TKO and four by submission. He took the lightweight belt from Shinya Aoki with a second-round TKO in May 2019, lost it to Ok Rae Yoon on a unanimous decision in September 2021 and took it back from Yoon by second-round TKO in August 2022. Three months later he stopped Kiamrian Abbasov in the fourth round of a welterweight title fight. His last two outings were both against Alibeg Rasulov: a no contest in the second round at ONE Fight Night 26 in December 2024, then a second-round TKO at 2:31 at ONE 173 last November.

Ruotolo built his name in submission grappling. He is 9-0 in ONE grappling matches, starting with Garry Tonon in May 2022, and he won the welterweight submission grappling title against Magomed Abdulkadirov in November 2023. He has defended it three times, most recently by decision over Pawel Jaworski in March. His MMA record is 2-0, both fights at lightweight and both ended by submission: Adrian Lee in the second round in September 2025, and Shozo Isojima at 2:25 of the first round on the same ONE 173 card where Lee beat Rasulov.

The two share one opponent across two sports. Lee beat Dagi Arslanaliev by unanimous decision in the lightweight final in October 2019, and Ruotolo submitted him in a grappling match in August 2023. Lee is listed at 5'11" (180 cm) with a 76-inch (193 cm) reach, Ruotolo at 5'10" (178 cm) with 75 inches (191 cm).
