In June 2026 the UFC began replacing its media-voted rankings with an algorithmic system called the Meta UFC Rankings. Here's what changed, why, and how to read the new board.
What are the Meta UFC Rankings?
The Meta UFC Rankings are the UFC's algorithm-generated fighter rankings, introduced in June 2026. Instead of a media panel voting after each event, an automated model orders every division's top 15 from fight results and activity, with champions holding the top spot.
Why is the UFC replacing the media rankings?
The media-voted panel was long criticized as slow, inconsistent and easy to lobby. An algorithm updates on results rather than votes, applies the same rules to every division, and removes the panel's subjectivity — that's the UFC's stated reason for the transition.
How do the Meta rankings differ from the media board?
Both rank each division's top 15 under the champion, but they regularly disagree about order — the algorithm reacts purely to results while media voters weigh reputation and matchup context. We render both boards side by side, so the divergence is visible at a glance.
